Introduction

Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS) is a medical disorder that only affects males.

Men with Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS) become ill within minutes or a few hours after having had an ejaculation. They may then develop a variety of the following symptoms:

Extreme fatigue, painful muscles, a flu-like state with itching eyes, congestion of the nose or a watery nose, a feverish feeling, sore throat and headache, but also irritability, difficulty in focusing attention, and difficulty in formulating sentences.

These complaints occur after each ejaculation, both after masturbation, intercourse or spontaneous ejaculation while sleeping. The complaints last for 2-7 days.

Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS) affects males in puberty and remains present for many years or it may occur for the first time at a later age.

In order to avoid these complaints, a lot of men affected by POIS, decide at a certain point in life  to abstain from sexual activity. They either completely avoid sexual activity or plan masturbation or intercourse to days after which they do not have any important obligations.

However, this self-chosen abstinence of sex is usually difficult to maintain as spontaneous ejaculations develop after a variable period of time, after which the typical POIS complaints reoccur.
